Women's Council grants impact 6 local non-profits
WOMEN’S COUNCIL GRANTS IMPACT 6 LOCAL NON-PROFITS
San Marcos, TX – The Central Texas Medical Center (CTMC) Women’s Council once again awarded impact grants to local non-profits that make a difference in the lives of women and children in Hays County. This year, six organizations received a portion of the available $16,000 in grant funding at the Council’s third annual Grants Award Ceremony on May 15.
Established in 2010, the Women’s Council is a unique fundraising committee of the CTMC Foundation that utilizes member dues to fund its efforts rather than traditional events and activities. Each year, the Council gives half of its impact grants to the CTMC Women’s Center and awards the other half to other non-profits serving women and children in Hays County. To date, the Council has provided $53,000 in funding.
At the Grants Award Ceremony, members of the Women’s Council awarded funds to the following organizations:
· Bluebonnet Lion’s Club
Reach Out and Read Program – $500
· genAUSTIN
Programs for Hays County Adolescent Girls – $1,800
· Hays Caldwell Women’s Center
Fresh & Nutritiuous Client Meals – $1,500
· Samaritan Center
Counseling services for uninsured women – $1,000
· Scheib Center
Skills kitchen for mentally disabled clients – $3,200
The remaining $8,000 portion of this year’s funding was allocated to the CTMC Women’s Center for fetal monitoring telemetry equipment that will allow soon-to-be mothers who are utilizing CTMC’s laboring tub to stay in the tub while their babies are monitored. Remaining funds will be used to purchase breast pumps for the Women’s Center’s growing breast feeding initiatives.
Last year, the Council granted $10,000 to the Women’s Center to create a new Remembrance Garden and grief support services for anyone who experiences the loss of an infant or child. In addition, two state-of-the-art breast pumps were purchased and additional funding was provided for CTMC’s Honeysuckle Mommy Baby Boutique that opened at the hospital earlier this month. The store offers lactation supplies and support seven days per week.
“With our third year of grants awards now complete, this simple giving circle model has really caught on,” said Clay DeStefano Executive Director of the CTMC Foundation. “We are truly impacting hundreds of local women and children in a very positive way, and we hope to grow our efforts to meet the needs of even more area non-profits.”
Now in its fourth year of operation, the Council has grown to 68 active members. Plans are underway for the Council’s annual meeting and dinner that will take place on Sept. 5. The featured speaker at the event will be Beverly Purcell-Guerra, editor of San Antonio Woman Magazine. Previously, Purcell-Guerra worked for Vogue and Glamour magazines, as well as the San Antonio Express-News. Interested potential members are also encouraged to attend the event.
